Can you smile again - A request to someone who forgot how to live

I still remember the way your lips

Get wider allowing your teeth to shine

And some of your hair falling down your face

And that red chin, perfect and fine.

Glitter in your eyes, showing enormous glow,

And your right hand covering half your face

Laughing, whispering filled with joy

Hitting my head softly with no pace.

Your nonstop joy, your way to share

All those time, when you had fun

How flourish you were, how fresh you looked

As if dewed rose smiling at the sun.

Today you no more laugh

Nor do you ever smile

I guess you lost all that joy

Away and away for miles.

Today the glitter of your eyes

Are seen in form of costly tears

It shows you hide from your friends

Hardship of life you bear.

Today your cherry chin

Have dried away and laugh fail

All your joyous mood have gone

And left your face, so pale.

No matter whatever you passed by,

In your recent past

Some were harsh, some were ugly

Some were slow, some fast

But today with your friends

Can’t you start a whole new day?

I am there to be with you,

Sharing life in your own way.

Lets remember the very old day

The old bread toast, the old cup of tea,

All old jokes old old riddles,

And two old friends, YOU and ME.

So promise me you will forget

All that happened all in vain,

And your lips should go wide, when I ask you:

“Can you smile again?”

This poem was never written for any one in particular. I just hoped that, if someday someone somewhere forgets how to live this beautiful gift of god called life, this poem should be helpful.
